For many mortgage brokers, a customer’s purchase journey starts long before they find their next property. Often, they’re simultaneously selling an existing home while arranging finance for their onward purchase.
Managing these tracked links can be challenging when sale and purchase matters are handled separately. It can be harder to track progress, identify risks that could impact completion, and maintain visibility across the customer’s entire move.
Our new Onward Purchase feature in Optimus CaseManager has been designed to support onward movers. It links the customer’s sale and purchase transactions, helping brokers manage connected matters more effectively while delivering a smoother experience for their clients.
What is Onward Purchase?
Onward Purchase enables Optimus CaseManager users to link a customer’s new purchase request to an existing instructed sale.
Where the conveyancer acting on the sale is also available to handle the purchase, Optimus CaseManager will recommend the same conveyancer for both matters. This helps brokers maintain continuity across the customer’s move, while giving homeowners the reassurance of dealing with a familiar conveyancing firm throughout their transaction.
How does it work?
When creating a purchase quote, users will be asked whether the purchase is linked to an existing sale.
If it is, the user can search for the relevant sale using its request identifier, applicant name, or address. Eligible instructed sale requests will be displayed, allowing the correct transaction to be selected before continuing through the usual purchase journey.
Where the sale conveyancer is available to act on the purchase, Optimus CaseManager will recommend that firm. If they cannot act because of capacity, capability, or another availability requirement, a warning will be displayed, and an alternative conveyancer can be selected. The purchase can then continue to instruction as normal.
Why have we introduced it?
For mortgage brokers, a customer’s sale and onward purchase are parts of the same move, even when they begin at different stages. Yet they’re often managed independently, creating additional administration and making it more difficult to maintain a complete view of the transaction.
Onward Purchase provides a clearer connection between the two matters, helping introducers:
Key benefits include:
A more consistent customer experience
Where possible, customers can remain with the same conveyancer for both their sale and purchase. This provides greater continuity across their moving journey and avoids introducing another firm unnecessarily.
Greater visibility of connected matters
Linked transactions are visible within the platform, making it easier to identify the relationship between a customer’s sale and purchase and understand their wider moving journey. This makes it easier to monitor progress, identify potential issues and provide updates to clients.
Reduced administration
Making linked matters easier to identify and manage reduces the administration involved in handling onward movers and helps users keep the two transactions connected.
Support when conveyancer matching is not possible
Using the same conveyancer will not be possible in every case. Recommendations remain subject to lender, panel, capacity, and capability requirements.
Where the original conveyancer cannot be recommended, an alternative can be selected so the transaction can continue. Optimus can also help identify the most appropriate alternative solution.
Retrospective linking
If the sale and purchase were instructed separately, the Optimus team can still retrospectively link the transactions, so their relationship is visible. Retrospective linking is currently managed by the Optimus team rather than being available as a self-service option.
Supporting a more connected moving journey
Onward Purchase is the latest enhancement to Optimus CaseManager, supporting a clearer and more connected experience for introducers, conveyancers, and customers.
By linking sale and purchase transactions and recommending the same conveyancer where possible, the feature helps reduce administration, improve visibility, and create greater continuity throughout the customer’s move.

Use of the same conveyancer cannot be guaranteed and is subject to lender, panel, capacity and capability requirements. Quotes remain standard single-product quotes. Linked transactions do not automatically receive bundled pricing or discounts.
