We talk a lot about what clients need to know during their conveyancing journey, and how they can help speed the process up. Whilst it is our bread and butter, for your clients their home moving journey doesn’t end once their case has completed. In fact, some would say this is just the beginning. We’ve put together this handy checklist to send to your clients once their case is completed, so they know you are there to support them throughout the whole process – not just your part.
The Ready to Move Homemover Checklist:
Home setup essentials
- Set up utilities (gas, electric, water)
- Arrange broadband / WiFi installation
- Update your home insurance to make sure it is active as soon as completion has happened
- Update your local council tax
Moving day logistics
- Plan how you are moving your belongings
- Label boxes clearly so you can find what you need when you move in
- Take final meter readings (if required) before you leave your old property
- Get in touch with the estate agent to plan key-handover arrangements
Change of address checklist
Including, but not limited to:
Moving in checks
- Check everything works – boiler, heating, taps, electrics, white goods
- Replace smoke and carbon-monoxide detector batteries
- Find out where the stopcock, fuse box, and boiler controls are
- Record your gas/water/electric meter readings to send off to suppliers
Once you are settled
- Register with local services – GPs, dentists, pharmacies, waste collection
- Plan any repairs which were flagged in your survey or when you moved in
- Introduce yourself to neighbours and get exploring!
